Ethiopia will generate an additional 1,200 mega watts of electric power in 2009 through the on going multi million dollar investment in the sector in the country, sources said here.
Ethiopian Ministry of Mines and Energy on Sunday said the country was using around 783 mega watts and that this will be stepped up when the another hydro electric power projects are finalized in 2009.
Minister Alemayehu Tegenu also disclosed that 1,200 mega watts are expected to be obtained from the Tekeze, Gilgel Gibe 3, and Beles dams.
When completed, the minister said Ethiopia would supply electricity to neighbouring countries like Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya.
Ethiopia and the three countries a few years ago, signed an energy agreement for interconnection which is expected to start in 2009.
