Ethiopian singer Tewodros Kassahun was convicted of manslaughter and fleeing the scene of a car accident in November 2006 in which a homeless man died, Agence France-Presse reported. Kassahun, known as Teddy Afro, was also found guilty by the nation’s Federal High Court of driving without a permit, the news agency said yesterday, citing Judge Leul Gebremariam. Kassahun, who faces as much as 15 years in prison, will be sentenced on Dec. 5, it said.
The singer, who is seen as close to the Ethiopian opposition, was arrested in April in connection with the incident, AFP said. Kassahun pleaded not guilty, saying he was out of the country at the time.
