Premier affirms Ethiopia’s participation in the coming Turkey-Africa Forum

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi affirmed that Ethiopia will take part in the 4th Turkey-Africa forum, which is to be held in Ankara in June 2009. The premier here on Wednesday held discussion with a Turkish delegation led by President of the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists of Turkey, Rizanur Meral.

During the discussion, Meles described the Ethiopia-Turkey relations as sound and growing. Hence, Ethiopia will be active participant in the forthcoming forum.

The government will provide the necessary assistance if Turkish investors are keen to make use of Ethiopia’s favorable investment opportunities, Meles noted.

The premier said Ethiopia considers Turkey as an investment partner and acknowledges the significance of skill, technology and knowledge transfer through increased Turkish investment inflow to Ethiopia, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended the discussion told journalists.

Rizanur Meral on his part said Turkish investors are keen to invest in education, infrastructural development, textile industry, and electronics, among others. The visit of 12-member delegation is also part of assessing investment opportunities here.

He said Turkey has been providing low tariff to goods from developing with a view to facilitating market opportunities.

The delegation in its four days stay here will visit development activities in various sectors.
