110th Anniversary of Ethio-Russian Diplomatic ties Celebrated in Moscow (June 27, 2008)

The 110th anniversary of the Ethio-Russian diplomatic relations and the 209th birthday of Alexander Pushkin, the renowned Russian poet, celebrated on 20 June 2008 on the premises of the Ethiopian Embassy in Moscow.

The event was jointly organized by the Ethiopian Millennium Celebration Committee and the Ethiopian Friendship Association in Russia.

Speaking at the occasion, Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Teketel Forsido said the cooperation between the two countries dates back to the 15th century. He said the Ethio-Russia diplomatic relations established 110 years ago is based on mutual benefits.

Relevant research papers were presented by Ethiopians, foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin, and by Russian scholars as part of the event. A photograph exhibition that depicts the long-standing Ethio-Russian diplomatic ties was also displayed.

Representatives from Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the event.

Students of Moscow Culture and Art University staged play on the poems of Pushkin and Russian cultural music in connection with the 209th anniversary of Pushkin.
