Ex-international, Tajudeen Disu has cautioned Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia to build his team around the home-based players if he intends to have a solid side ahead of the Nations Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.

In a chat with NationSport at the weekend, Disu said this impression was evident in the international friendly against Sierra Leone last week. He added that the coach should ensure that the bulk of his players in the new-look Super Eagles team are made up of home-based players that are available.

“If he does not want to be disappointed, he should ensure that he does not rely on the foreign-based players. I expected him to use all the home players that have been training in camp and rest the foreign-based in the friendly against Sierra Leone.

“You don’t expect players to come two days to a match to play like a team. Of course it is the first match he will be playing and we should also give him a chance to build a team, but again he must have a standing team here at home that will be beefed up with some good foreign-based players,” Disu advised.

Disu, who has always advocated for an all home-based national team, said during his time, every body that played for the country were all home-based, and that the outcome was better than what is obtained today.

The former Director of Sports Development in Ogun State said though the standard of the match against the Leone Stars was not impressive, he is happy that the team has started from somewhere.
