ETHIOPIAN GOVT HELPING FIND MARKET FOR JATROPHA PLANT INVESTORS

ADDIS ABABA, April 5 (NNN-ENA) — Ethiopia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy is striving to help investors engaged in planting of the Jatropha plant for its fruits to be used as an energy source find markets for the output, says the Public Relations and Communication Officer of the ministry, Bacha Faji.

He told ENA here Monday that there were 68 investors engaged in cultivating Jatropha plants and currently, some 15 investors were developing Jatropha plantations in South Ethiopia Peoples’, Oromia, Tigray, Benishangul-Gumuz and Somali states.

As part of the ministry’s efforts for market link, Flora Eco Power, a private company has been exporting oil produced from Jatropha, he said.

The cultivation of the Jatropha plant is expanding widely in the country and Bacha said the Jatropha plantation had created so far permanent and casual jobs for 140,000 people.
