St. George Football Club clinches Addis Ababa City Cup
November 2nd, 2009 | by addis portal |Addis Ababa (November 1, 2009) – Ethiopian Premier League defending champions, St. George FC clinched the Addis Ababa City Cup with a 2-0 win over Ethiopian Insurance FC in the final here today. Meanwhile, Ethiopian Coffee took third place with a 2-0 victory over Harar Brewery.
Even though the AA City Cup is a competition reserved for Addis Ababa-based teams, Harar Brewery was invited as guest to replace cup holders EEPCo.
The tournament kicked off with Ethiopian Coffee beating Defense Force 2-1 followed by a 1-0 victory of Ethiopian Insurance over Ethiopian Banks SC 1-0.
In the second day of the competition, St. George walloped Ethiopian Insurance 3-1 thanks to goals from ace striker Salhadin Mohammed, Bereket Addisu and Adane Girma, and poor Defense Force lost 1-0 at the hands of Harar Brewery.
Next, St. George was held to a 1-1 draw by Ethiopian Banks and Ethiopian Coffee defeated Harar Brewery 3-1.
In the semi-final matches, Ethiopian Insurance shocked Ethiopian Coffee 4-3 on penalty kicks, while St. George hammered Harar Brewery 3-0.
