Company to start manufacturing solar lamps in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa – NAVCOM-ENERGY PLC, a private company, announced that it would start manufacturing lamps working with solar energy with six million birr capital.

Company President, Engineer Commander Admasu Gebre, told WIC that the company has finalized preparations to launch manufacturing solar energy lamps here in Addis by the coming mid -September.

Engineer Commander Admasu said that the lamp factory which is being constructed in Kality area would have the capacity to manufacture 1000 solar lamps per a day. The pilot production of the lamps was successful, he added.

According to the president, manufacturing solar lamps in the country is also believed to benefit communities, especially, in the rural areas of the country with no access to electric power.

The company, along with the raw materials useful for the lamp manufacturing, has reached an agreement with a Chinese company to import a solar panel, the president said.

Ethiopia is endowed with abundant wind and solar energy that make it very suitable for the development of alternative energies, he noted.

The company is also engaged in developing wind energy and other alternative energies, according to the president.
