Over 20,000 farmers to take part in rice dev’t

Gondar, Ethiopia – ENA – More than 20,000 farmers in North Gondar Zone of the Amhara State would participate in rice development during the main crop season, the Zonal Agriculture and Rural Development Department said.The rice development would be executed in some eight Woredas, which has favorable ecology zone, department deputy head, Tekeba Tebabal told ENA.

The department envisaged increasing the land being developed through rice from 3,000 hectares to 15,000 hectares.

He said 100,000qunitals of agricultural output was reaped from the land developed by rice last year. He said efforts would be made to reap 600,000 quintals this year.

All the necessary preparations including training of farmers, selection of favorable farm lands and distribution of agricultural outputs are being made.

He said besides enabling the farmers to ensure food security the rice development would also help them attain additional income.
