Non-profit thrilled with help given to Ethiopian Jews

May 28th, 2009 | by addis portal |

I own a non-profit organization called the House of Reuben whose main goal is to raise funds to help Ethiopian Jews escape from Ethiopia to Israel. They have been living in Ethiopia for thousands of years and have suffered very badly. I could never thank enough the great Pope Benedict who made a great statement in the year 2007 asking the world to help Israel with relocating the Ethiopian Jews to Israel, to see that they get an education and to find jobs for them.

A few weeks ago I called the Ethiopian embassy and asked about the status of Ethiopian Jews. Are there any more Ethiopian Jews living in Ethiopia? The young lady who answered the phone said she was not from Ethiopia, but she would get somebody to answer the question. Shortly afterwards, a man answered the phone and said Ethiopian Jews were being gathered together to ship to Israel. I couldn’t believe what he was saying and I asked him to repeat himself. He repeated it and then I asked him to tell me how many. He couldn’t tell me how many, but I want to thank the world and I want to thank Pope Benedict for making that great statement. We can remember from our Bible that it says from the land of Kush to the Promised Land. That statement was made thousands of years ago. I appreciate everything people have been doing for us, but we still need help. We know that food is the most powerful weapon known to man or beast.

We accept any gift no matter how small or large. You can send your donation to the following address, House of Reuben, Post Office Box 1557, Andover, MA 01810. For further information, you may call Rabbi Ira L. Korinow at Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill at 978-373-3861. He will be able to tell you anything you want to know and how you can help the Ethiopian Jews.

May God bless you.
