Ethiopia’s population is projected to reach 174 million by 2050 according to a report released by the United Nations. Ethiopia’s population is currently estimated at 82 million with 99 males to 100 females ratio. In 1950, Ethiopia’s population was 18 million and by 2015 it is estimated to reach 96 million. By 2050 Ethiopia is projected to be the 9th largest country by population and Nigeria will remain to be Africa’s most populous country. Nigeria’s population is projected to reach 289 million by 2050 making it the fifth most populous country in the world.
World population will exceed 9 Billion by 2050 with most of the increase coming from developing countries. During 2010-2050, nine countries are expected to account for half of the world’s projected population increase: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, the United States of America, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Republic of Tanzania, China and Bangladesh, listed according to the size of their contribution to global population growth.
